The Serendipity Foundation

by Sam Smit

Why read a boring text book when you can have a few hours of entertaining reading?  The Serendipity Foundation by Sam Smit tells a tale of what's wrong with organisations and how each individual has a role to play in bringing about the change for better organisations and communities.

An allegorical tale where four disallusioned businessmen are "kidnapped" but are given the opportunity to set their own ransom demands ultimately to make the world a better place. When the ransom demands ask people to carry out acts of kindnesss and show gratitude to each other people realise how little it costs them and how much they gain as they create connections with each other, build communities and challenge government to put people at the centre of decision-making. The book shines a light on a country that has lost its way and opens our eyes to how organisations will sacrifice the lives of employees for their ultimate goals and to benefit shareholders. A cleverly woven story where we can all recognise the players, realise the role we all play and somehow it makes it feasible to bring about the changes that would make the world a better place. Instead of a non-fiction guide to change this is a refreshing read for anyone working to change cultures and who wants a few hours entertainment.
